Homework 8 for CMPE 16---Applied Discrete Math---Fall 1996
Due Friday 22 Nov
at the beginning of class.
All assignments are from the book
Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications
Third Edition by Kenneth H. Rosen (McGraw-Hill 1995)
Reading Assignment
Read Sections 5.1--2, 6.1. Turn in a page of notes. These notes may
contain critical concepts, things you found unclear, questions you'd
like to ask in class, and so forth.
Exercises from the text
Hand in solutions to the following problems---for each problem,
concisely explain your reasoning.
Section 9.3: 3, 4, 6, 8 (hint: you can make a much smaller
circuit if you first design an XOR module that computes the
exclusive-or of two signals), 15, 16, 18
Redraw the circuit of problem 9.3.4, using only NAND gates, NOR
gates, and inverters. Follow the "bubble convention", which puts
inversion bubbles at both ends of a wire (an active-low signal) or at
neither end of the wire (an active high signal).
