Hari defended his doctoral thesis on the design of "Robust loop-free routing protocols in ad-hoc networks" in April 2006. He was advised by Prof. J.J. Garcia-Luna-Aceves, and was part of the Computer Communications Research Group (CCRG). He is currently with the Wireless Networking Business Unit of Cisco Systems, and works on the Mesh network development team.

Prior to this, he received his bachelors degree in Electronics and Communication engineering from Sri Venkateswara College Of Engineering (aka SVCE) , University of Madras, India in 2001. He also briefly interned at the Chief Technology Office of Sun Microsystems, Menlo Park in Summer 2004, where he worked on mobility detection in IPv6 networks.
