Research
Experience
Research Assistant, University of California at Santa Cruz, 1995 - June 1999

Conducted research into shared-tree multicast routing protocols with my advisor, Dr. J.J. Garcia-Luna-Aceves. Developed the Ordered Core Based Tree protocol (OCBT), which corrected deficiencies in the Core Based Tree protocol while extending it to use multiple cores and to be the first shared-tree protocol able to tolerate network partitions. Currently implementing a GateD version of OCBT. Proposed HIP, a hierarchical multicast routing protocol that allows heterogenous domains to communicate using OCBT. Created secure versions of both OCBT and HIP for Keyed-HIP (KHIP), which limits access to the multicast tree to authorized members.

SEED Summer Intern, Hewlett-Packard Labs, June 1996 - September 1996

Conducted firewall performance analysis for the BIDS model of service. Developed tools to analyze and re-create network traffic based on SOCKS log traces from actual installations. Conducted performance and scalability analysis of the Firewall-1 firewall running under BIDS style traffic loads. Received highest rating of "exceptional" for work performed as summer student.
