Date & Location

This year's ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at 4:00 PM at the Engineering Courtyard (between the Engineering 2 and Jack Baskin Engineering buildings). A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony. The ceremony area will not be open for seating until 2:30pm.

Due to the size of the Engineering Courtyard, seating is limited.

  • Additional seating is available inside the Baskin Auditorium where the event will be shown via video simulcast. This may be a good option for guests who are sun-sensitive.
  • Handicap accessibility and seating is available in the Engineering Courtyard and Baskin Auditorium.
  • Additional seating and standing room will be available on the Upper Courtyard.
  • Parking will be restricted. Each graduating student may obtain up to 2 graduation day parking permits.

Rehearsal

Rehearsal takes place Friday, June 13 at 1:00 PM at Engineering Courtyard. All graduating students are strongly encouraged to attend rehearsal.

Registration

Graduates must register by Sunday June 1, 2008 using the School of Engineering's 2008 graduation registration Web site.

Graduates should also visit the Bay Tree Graduation Center . You can visit the center in-person or online . The Bay Tree Graduation Center will be open from April 14 - June 6 for the following:

  • Pick Up Your Cap & Gown
  • Return Your Cap & Gown
  • Class Rings
  • Graduation Portraits

Student Speakers Wanted for 2008 Graduation

The School of Engineering invites students of the graduating Class of 2008 to consider offering a speech for the graduation celebration.

Any seniors and graduate students who are interested in delivering a Senior or Graduate Student Address on behalf of their fellow members of the graduating Class of 2008 for the School of Engineering, must submit their name and major status, along with their written speech to Virginia Carrillo via email to as soon as possible but no later than Monday, May 19.

There is no written word-limit however speech presentations are limited to five-minutes. Depending on the number of candidates, the committee will select 1 or 2 undergraduate students for the Senior Address and 1 or 2 Masters/Ph.D. students for the Graduate Address.

The selection committee will be comprised of SoE faculty and staff as well as students. We invite graduating students (seniors and grads) who are NOT interested in being a speaker, to serve on the selection committee as a representative of their graduating class. Please send email to Virginia Carrillo, , indicating your interest to serve on this committee.

 

Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed to help with this year's graduation ceremony. If you have a friend or know of an undergraduate student who would like to volunteer, please have them contact the Dean's Office receptionist, . Volunteers are needed on graduation day between the hours of 11am and 7pm, to help with setup, cleanup and guest assistance.

Guest Information

NOTE: The Engineering Courtyard has very little shade, please bring a sun hat in case of warm sunny weather, a coat or sweater in case of cooler temperatures. UMBRELLAS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE COURTYARD.

Announcements

Personalized graduation announcements for the School of Engineering Graduation Ceremony can be purchased either online or in-person at the Graduation Center through the Bay Tree Bookstore.

Cap & Gown

Appropriate graduation attire is requested. Reservations for caps & gowns can be made either online or in-person at the Bay Tree Bookstore Graduation Center. Contact the Bay Tree Bookstore Graduation Center for regalia distribution information.

Bay Tree Bookstore staff will be present at the end of Graduation Ceremony on the upper Courtyard with a cap/gown return box.
