CMPE100 Lab Resources Spring 07

This page contains links to the data sheets and reference manuals for the parts and software we will be using. Please don't print them out; this will waste paper.

We will be using the Digilent Pegasus Board which uses a Xilinx Spartan II FPGA.

We will be using the Xilinx ISE WebPack 8.2i(free) and ModelSim XE III 6.1e (Starter Edition). The most current version is ISE WebPack 9.1i, so make sure you download 8.2i rather 9.1i!!!

You can download this software(free) from the Xilinx ISE Webpack page. Click on ISE Classics in the menu on the left. Then click on Download Free in the menu on the right. You will then need to

  1. Register for a Xilinx account (painless).
  2. Fill out the survey.
  3. Download ISE 8.2i (use WebInstall) including Service pack 3.
  4. Download ModelSim Xilinx Edition-III (MXE-III)
Install the Xilinx ISE and then ModelSim software. After installing ModelSim you will need to request a license for the Starter Edition. ModelSim is only available for Windows, so you'll need the Windows version of ISE. This software is already installed on the machines in BE104. Please note that you may not use Xilinx's Customer Support if you encounter a problem (this is a condition of the use of this software). Please contact the instructor or TAs if you have a problem.

These are industrial strength tools. We will guide you through their use, keeping things simple. You are welcome to explore other features of the tools, but make sure to save your work first.
