Assignment Overview
This is the third required hands-on assignment of CMPE003, Winter 2000. The due date is Monday, March 6th by 2 pm.
The purpose of this assignment is to create a multimedia webpage in your CATS account. Proficiency is also developed in setting up and using digitizing hardware.
Think permanent web estate, as you design your web page. In other words, the web page you create with this assignment will remain active past the end of the class, and will be available through UCSC's server for as long as yo have your CATS account (probably until you graduate). After that, if you wish to take your page with you, you can zip all your files and put them on a floppy to go. You can later install them on another computer. Or transfer them to another account by means of FTP. So don't hamper your creativity !
Before you begin, read about what equipment you'll need to do the assignment. If you do this work during sections, the requirements are very few since all of the equipment is available in the campus labs and through the CE3 staff. Otherwise, the requirements are different depending on whether you do the work:
CBT offers many online courses on web-authoring which you might want to briefly preview to determine what training is available. As usual, you receive extra-credit for training with CBT.
This assignment requires completion of any 4 out of the 5 following tasks. Completion of all 5 receives extra-credit. The tasks can be completed in any order. They are:
To turn in any part of the assignment, simply leave the files specified in its directions in your CATS account, under the public_html directory. The CE3 staff will collect them from there.
Here's an example of what your web page would look like (in its simplest form). To view the unformatted content of a web page using the Netscape browser, use the menu entries "View->Document Source".
