The Leaf

Abe Karplus

Spring
A leaf blossoms,
Tender and new,
Full of life,
A youngster.
Summer
Now rich green,
No longer young,
It provides cool shade,
In its leafy greeness.
Fall
No more green,
All brown, red, and orange,
It flies down from the tree
Like a bird.
Winter
Now the leaf is gone,
Leaving the tree bare,
Until spring is here again,
The tree will shiver.
